Why do we give Vo-Tech school scholarships? We hope we're filling a need.

During our history of awarding scholarships, we've noticed that a majority of scholarships out there specify that the recipient "must be attending a four-year university." We like four-year universities as much as the next guy, but we've never quite understood why students who choose vocational/technical programs over traditional academia aren't generally considered as worthy of financial assistance.

Vo-Tech schools cost money, too, and like most of their university counterparts, their primary motivation for going to class every day is to end up with a good job. And let's be honest: the diesel mechanics and computer technicians of the world are landing better-paying jobs after 18 months of schooling than the English majors are after four years (Trust us on that -- we're some of those English majors).

So why not as many scholarship opportunities? We don't know, but we can at least do our part to change that. Hence, we offer the Vo-Tech Scholarships four times per year.
