For Scholarship Applicants - “Page Two” Error

I know there are lots of students on our site who are here to apply for scholarships, so I wanted to take a second to address a problem that some of you are having when you apply online here on the site. We know that some of you are having a problem getting to page 2 of the scholarship application (the one with the essays on it). It’s a very small percentage of you guys who are having this problem, but it’s still happening consistently, so I want to bring you up to speed on what . From what you guys are telling us, the problems takes shape in one of two ways:
1) You fill out the information on page 1, hit “submit,” and the second page just waits and waits and never loads; or
2) You fill out the information on page 1, hit “submit,” and the second page loads — but the rest of the form doesn’t appear.
Here’s the deal: First of all, don’t worry — you can still apply and have your essay considered along with everyone else’s. If you’re having either of the problems, you can email Robert, our scholarship coordinator, and tell him which scholarship you’re applying for. He’ll email you the questions personally. When you’ve completed them, email them back to Robert and he’ll be sure the committee receives them, and that your name is attached to the essays you’ve written.
Just to keep you all in the loop — we’ve had trouble fixing this bug in the application process because, unfortunately, we can never replicate it. It never happens to us — never. And completed essays are rolling in briskly, so most students aren’t experiencing it either — which is a good thing overall, but not so good for trying to pinpoint the problem. Here’s what we know: It happens with all of our scholarships, but it seems to happen more frequently with the Fridell scholarship than the others. We’d love for you guys who are, in fact, having this problem, to send us an email and let us know the following information:
What platform are you using? (Windows, Mac, etc.)
What operating system? (e.g., Windows Vista, Mac OSX, etc.)
What browser and version? (e.g., Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 2.0, etc.)
What country and state/province are you in?
What page were you directly before you got to Page 1 of the application? (Please provide a URL, if you can — if you can’t or you aren’t sure, then don’t worry about this one)
I apologize for this problem; I’m sure it’s annoying as hell to be all good and ready to fill out a scholarship application and then be stopped by a technical bug like this one. I just wanted to let you guys know that it annoys me too, and we’re trying to get it fixed as soon as possible. If you have any questions or comments, you’re welcome to post them below. Thanks again for your patience while we try to figure it all out.

UPDATE: After I sent out the email about this blog post, we experienced a wave of traffic that knocked out our servers for a good 30 minutes (shouldn’t have been nearly that long, but our hosting company, Rackspace, was very slow fixing the problem). I had troubles at first, but then I was able to reload the page and the whole application worked from there on out. I am not sure if my first attempt to get to the second page was submitted, if so there might be two submissions from me. Not sure, but never the less I was able to reload the page to get to the rest of the application.

I didn’t have trouble with the pages the only problem I had was not receiving confirmation that you received it. I checked my email and spam box and there is nothing in either one.

i am unsure of what application i applied for.. but i did apply.. there was 2.. and i remember that one let me apply and the other didn’t.. they were 2 different questions.. i replied to both.. but only one let me finish the application.. i would like to know what the question was so that i can finish the application to ensure the chances of me getting the scholarship. thanks once again…

I left the page to check the e-mail as instructed to do. When I tried to return to the page, it automatically submitted my application without the essay question being answered. I would like to finish the application to make sure I am considered for the scholarship.

I also have experienced the problems with getting to page two on several occasions. I use Window platform, Windows Vista and Interne Explorer.I live in the United States in Idaho. The page I was on prior to the first page was fastweb.com. I am willing to try again to make sure I get in for the scholarships that I am qualified to apply to. Thanks for the update.

I don’t think I had any issues with the submission…but I applied a long time ago. I also would like to know what my status is on either of the scholarships and when we should expect notification. I pray that I did not have an issue that I am not aware of and hope that everyone else’s gets fixed. Thanks for letting us know.

I applied for StraightForward Media Minority Scholarship and Science Scholarship but I only could filled out the first page. This is the problem, I clicked ’summit’ to the second page, the page loaded but the form didn’t appear. So I couldn’t do the essays for both of my scholarships.

I believe, I submitted more than once, but I was able to complete the application and essay questions. I did receive a confirmation email so I feel that my work was received. Thank you for addressing this. Most organizations don’t take the time or trouble to inform applicants.

After I hit the “submit” button it went back to the personal information page, and I never received a confirmation email. Does this mean that you guys never received it in the first place?

I am so glad that I was not the only one to recieve trouble. I was very frustrated because I actually finished my application but when I went to submit it, the page expired and I could not get back to it to get info. about where to mail my SAR and also to refill out the app. The same thing also happened with my Sallie Mae Scholarship app. I would really like to have the chance to apply for these two scholarships because I very much depent on financial resources. I am using an HP Pavilion MX703 computer, however, it belongs to a friend and I know little to nothing about it. Please contact me about what I am able to do, Thanks!

I did in fact have a problem but when i clicked page 2 it sent me directly back to page 1. The platform i am using is Windows. My operating system is Windows Vista. I was using Firefox. I’m not sure which version it is but I’m guessing the latest. I live in the US in Arizona. The page i was on directly before this was Fastweb.

I have applied severally but my problem is not with the essays. When filling out some forms, they ask for things like ZIP, STATE, which do not apply for us in Africa. One can therefore not submit.

I applied for the art school scholarship, and on the second page there was the essay part. But I wasn’t aware of essay questions. I guess they just didn’t load. So in one of the blank text boxes for the essay I just wrote about why I though I deserved the scholarship. Will my application still be considered? Or should I re-apply?

When I filled out the first page of one of the scholarships and I clicked submit, the websited did not even take me to the second page. It said your application has been submitted. I redid my scholarship form (it took me to the second page this time) It took my application. So If you see two forms for Carmen Collins (not sure which scholarship it was) that’s why. Thanks

I was able to get to the second page. I wanted to see it so I could get the essay questions. Most scholarship contests post the questions in area separate from the application so students can read and think about answers. I thought I would be able to find out what the questions were and then back out of it without submitting my application. Apparently that didn’t work. I decided not to apply in any case.

My problem is that of a technical nature. I don’t have Outlook Express. My emails don’t reach you because they cannot be mailed. HELP!!!

I don’t think I had any trouble…I remember answering two essay questions and neither of them having a minimum or maximum word count. That was pretty cool.

I did not have any problems. I answered to short question eassys and was able to write as much imformation as possible with out having a minimum or maximum word count allowing me to put in every detail that i thought was needed

I had this issue the first time I attempted to apply for the Fridell Scholarship. I’m using Seamonkey as my browser, and I’m on a PC with Windows XP Home. I’m in Kentucky. The second time I tried it, everything was fine. Thanks for being so on top of it all. Very professional.

I had a problem loading the second page of the site a number of times. Each time I was accessing from a Mac, using Internet Explorer, and accessing the site from the District of Columbia.
When I used my PC I was able to fully load the second page. Maybe it’s a Mac issue?

StraightForwardMedia fills my heart with farthomless hope. I’ve been weather-beaten moving up and down looking for scolarships but when I landed on it, I can well see myself with lots of gleaming hope.My only question would be; Here in Uganda we dont use what you call ‘GPA’but do seven years of primary,four for secondary,two for higher.It is at the end of those levels that we get awarded with various certificates.So if I dont show the GPA please understand.Otherwise Straight forward is wonderful.

I just got through with page one but could not go any further thereafter. When I attempted for the second time, I received a notice that the scholership form or page won’t be accessible to me until 11 hours 55 seconds later. However, I will later search for the scholarship form, fill it and wire it to Roberts as instructed.

I grow up in a family of height persons. we are four brothers and two sixters.I did not have chance to receive my father’s love,because he went to Bahamas to spend sixteen years.What’s important to me to let you know is : Even my mom does not know how to read and how to write,she is only the one who always encourage me to go to school and to get my books to study.I could not understand that how come my mom did not know how to read and she always force me to study ? That’s mean even she can’t write and read,she knew that education was good.I can tell if my mom was not there I would already lost my life or be a bad guy.when I was little I did not like school,I prefered to hang out with my friends,play succer and basket-ball, TAEkONDO (caratee,) I liked fight with my friends.we might go some where together before we get back surely we will fight for nothing.Besides all these things I say, it could not stop me to not go to school or to continue with my students,because my mother was there.I did not think if i could finish with my hight school.because it was a pleasure to me to wall and fight in my city where ever I go.Now, with help of my mother I’m finished with my hight schoo since a couple years a go. I can tell : I can tell I made a mystikes because I did not like school,but now i see the important of education, with out education I would be probabely a dangous man around of the world. Now what’s I am today come from by education. because education is only the way for humain be successfull. my life would be more hard if I were not at school. education is changing my life. education put end of all bad things that I used to do. now, I have a lot passions for school,it’s very import and necessary to my life.some times I’m thinking about the life of my friends. some of them is died, some of them stay in the same way like I was in the past time, some is more bad than how i was.
to conclure : finished wiht my high school is a second step in my life.It changes completely my personality, my visions,my thinkings.I really have a better life for now.I really have a new dream, a new plan, I’m thinking by a nother way now.I wish to be a good man in my country and around of the world.I’m a conseillor of my friends now,I always help them to understand how to take care of themself and to believe in education.i have new friens now, all of them are finished with their students ( from college).I have now time to spend with people who doesn’t like to go to school.I spend some times with them just to encourage them to go to school,but not to do a nother thing. I, too, had several issues with this scholarship. I was applying for the Teacher scholarship, and while the first page was easy to complete, it took three tries to get to the essay page, where there were boxes for the essay answers, but no questions to be answered! So I then tried to email “Robert>?” but could not do that either! I would like to receive the questions so that I could have a chance at this scholarship. Also, I am using Windows XP. Mozilla Firefox, and Fastweb website! Thanks for anything you can help with, and the opportunity!

I got through with my application. I would like to suggest that we get to review the essay questions as a preview for the minority scholarship BEFORE we have to submit them.
In this way, I can write and edit my essays in Microsoft Word, then come prepared to complete the application process, “ready to roll”, and paste them into the essay boxes.

All seem to be very submissive. The application had no error or delays. I happened to keen in on Microsoft Windows update and compatibility working with Zone Alarm Fire Wall which, just recently, on July 8, 2008, Microsoft Windows update in NOT compatible with Zone Alarms Anti-Virus protection, therefore, there may be some obstructions. Overall, I believe this obstruction may decline one from accessing the Internet Surf Web, in general, and not specifically the Web Scholarship itself. One may want to check ones updates and follow through, though?

I am unable to get an e mail confirmation at my website address from you all. Help!! This is my second time completing several scholarships and no sucess in getting a confirmation via my e mail address. I did call and speak with someone at your office on 07-16-2008 and he called me back twice and said he could not find anything in the database to show that I applied for these scholarships. I noticed in your blog that someone else had a similar problem and was allowed to send their scholarship via e mail. Would I be able to do this as well? Could you follow-up again?

Hi i applied for an engineering scholarship and submitted.It was a two-page application form with the first page entailing personal details and the second a space for writing the reason why i want to become an engineer.My worry is that i never saw any titles for writing essays which i have discovered are requisites for being awarded the scholarship.Please let me know if the question on “why i want to be an engineer” was the essay and if it is not the one,how i can access the essays.Thank you.

I had exited out of the second page with the essay questions because I wanted to work on them a bit longer, and then I got a confirmation email however at the point the essay questions were left blank. i did not click sumbit so i hope it wasnt sent it like that as some sort of error. finally…when i did send it, i did it twice because the first time i forgot to put in my school and GPA. i hope that will not disqualify my application.

I applied for this scholorship two times in a row and both times, when I clicked the sumbit button, I recieved a error message. This was the “Admission Facts Scholarship Program.” Recieving the error upset me greatly because the first time I worded my essay, it was captivating. The second time wasn’t so great. Please fix this error as the deadline is tonight at 12am.

LIKE YOU SAID IN YOUR STRAIGHT FORWARD MASSAGE I HAVE APPLIED TO ONE OF YOUR PROGRAMES.WHEN I AM APPLING ON THE FIRST TIME I DONT THINK THAT I HAVE A PROBLEM BUT LETER A MASSAGE CAME IN THAT SAYS TO FINSH THE APPLICATION I THINK THAT I FINISHED THE NEEDED INFORMATION BUT LASTLY IT SAIED THAT THERE IS AN ERROR IN ONE OF THE PAGES SO I AM NOT SURE THAT THE MASSAGE HAD REACHED YOU.

Well, what really my problem regarding on it is on the second page which I don’t know what to right because I did not know what is the question. I just jot right on there a sort of explanation only to find iut that there is really a technical problem and I am not sure if I have submitted the second page because there was no confirmission for that…and so that is it..
