4th Quarter, 2006

StraightForward Media is proud to announce that the winner of our latest Art School Scholarship is Ryan Nussbacher, from Toronto, Canada. Ryan is pursuing a future in the publication and design field via an education at the Pratt Institute. It's a rigorous curriculum that allows little time for other activities yet he still manages to volunteer some of his time to worthy causes such as tutoring with America Reads and taking part in leadership clubs on campus.
"I come from a city just north of the great Falls of Niagara. I had a life there, a family there and the beginning of a career there. I was a Junior Advertising Art Director in Toronto, and I thought I had found my livelihood until one night when I met with one of the most famous ad men in the industry."

She is currently a first year student at the Fashion Institute of Technology, majoring in the Textile/Surface Design program, where she hopes to receive her bachelor's degree.
"New York is such a wonderful place to live, and I feel blessed everyday for the opportunity to study here. Moving from Florida was a challenge, but I plan on doing great things within the next few years and going to FIT is the perfect stepping stone. The art world is quite competitive, but I am confident I have a secure place in it."

1st Quarter, 2006

StraightForward Media is proud to announce that the 1st Quarter, 2006 winner of the Art School Scholarship is Alison Stinley. Alison is a student at the Cleveland Institute of Art.

"My first piece is sealed tightly in a family photo album. It is about three by four inches in dimension: I enjoyed working on smaller surfaces then. I believe the medium was a blue Bic ballpoint pen; I had not yet discovered anything beyond crayons and washable markers. I was two years old and not able to write my own name."

4th Quarter, 2005

StraightForward Media is proud to announce that the 4th Quarter, 2005 winner of our Art School Scholarship is Eileen O'Brien. She will be enrolling in the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, CA.

"All throughout school I have been doodling on my class work. I can't help it -- I have a drive for drawing that cannot be stopped. So to fill this drive I have to keep finding new ways to carry it out by taking every art class I can possibly find and by applying for every contest and program to build my abilities as an artist. Taking programs such as C.S.S.S.A (California Summer School for the Arts) I majored in digital media and sculpture, as well as taking figure drawing and design classes. Right now I am in my senior year of high school taking AP studio art, as well as a figure drawing class at a local community college."

3rd Quarter, 2005

StraightForward Media is proud to announce that the 3rd Quarter, 2005 winner of our Art School Scholarship is L. Barrett Powell. Barrett has a passion for the arts.

"My father was an artist who was forced by his parent's expectations to choose another more "proper" profession. When I was 10, he was giving me private art lessons but had to stop because he fell ill and died from leukemia-related pneumonia. It was rather dramatic for me to see him lose his balance and fall over while trying to give me lessons... and then to die."
